What Can You See? School Visits at the Sarjeant Gallery
The educators at the Sarjeant Gallery will share highlights from their LEOTC programme which for over 20 years has provided learning experiences outside the classroom through practical art activities for primary to secondary students in the Whanganui region. School sessions at the Gallery are based on the exhibition programmes, the Gallery’s permanent collection and visiting artist workshops. Students love seeing and discussing actual works of art in the gallery. Guided by the expertise and enthusiasm of the Gallery educators they then have a hands-on art experience in the purpose-built classroom. Some sessions cater specifically to teacher requests and are designed to enhance their curriculum. The Pecha Kucha talk will show a wide range of student work including printmaking, photography, sculpture, painting, drawing and mixed media. The Sarjeant Gallery has also put on 4 student exhibitions: Feathered Friends, In the Garden, Home Beautiful and A Partridge in a Pear Tree which will be featured in the presentation.
