“Drawing is a fundamental and cognitive activity of the human mind.” - Burton. This presentation will review current drawing practice and theory with particular focus on autonomous drawing and painting machines. As well as drawing performance in current art practice. Examples of student work from ‘Deus Ex Machina’ a 3.5 unit where students create and exhibit drawing machines will demonstrate links between cutting edge technologies and more traditional approaches to drawing.
Biography: Esther Hansen
Esther Hansen is one of the assistant HOD's of art at Pukekohe High school. She specialises in teaching printmaking, drawing and painting. Her own art practice is focused on printmaking and installation art and she regularly exhibits in New Zealand and overseas. She has presented at two previous conferences on using installation to develop painting practice and on approaches to drawing. Esther was the secretary of the last ANZAAE conference held in Auckland.
